Q:  Will my book be placed on bookstore shelves?

A:  In the current book selling climate, there are 126 million book titles to date, and it is difficult to get booksellers interested in any books.

Publishers have no control over an author's book.  A book buyer that works for a bookstore such as BN, selects and places a book on their shelf. BN can only place 100,000 titles on their shelves. It is out of the publishers' hands. Even Independent (family owned) Bookstores can only place about 20,000 - 30,000 titles in their store. It is up to the author to work hard, to get customers to go to the store to buy your book(s), even if it is not on the shelf, they will place it there if enough purchase your book(s). This is an industry-wide statement, and it applies to print-on-demand, Offset, and Mass Market Paperback books. Most booksellers order most of their titles on consignment, and pay at time of ordering.  However, the customer can return any book(s).  Meaning that they will pay the wholesaler / Distributors / Publishers, within 30-90 days after buying the book for their inventory. This is not a sale, but inventory. If a book does not sell, after 5 - 7 months, those book sellers can return the book to the publisher at any time, in any condition, and the publisher will refund their money.

DragonEye Publishing mark books as "Returnable". Bookstores / wholesalers / distributor,  purchase our titles knowing they are returnable.

Authors cannot approach and convince the bookstores to stock and display copies of their book. The only way to get bookstores to select your book for the shelf is --- SALES!  Sales drive the book market industry.

Q:  Do traditional retail outlets like B&N know about you?  Do they order from you? Do you pursue sales with them?

A: Traditional retail outlets are very familiar with DragonEye Publishing, and how to order books from our company. With the addition of the "Bookstore Returnable Program", it is easier now for traditional outlets to order and stock DragonEye Publishing titles. Even without the program, some bookstores will still fulfill special orders for people who order the book through them.

Dragoneye Publishing does not actively pursue marketing and sales with bookstores. However, marketing and promotion can be done by a book genre buyer at book stores if they wish to take part in marketing and promotion. The buyer makes the publisher aware that they would like to take interest in a title. And, the publisher pays fees to that bookstore for marketing / promotions.

It is up to the publisher and especially the author to continually make readers aware of the author's book(s), which then results in the sales of the books. Through marketing, ads, promotions, etc. determines the interest in an authors book(s). If a bookstore wishes to order a DragonEye Publishing book, they can. About one half of our orders currently come from traditional bookstores.

Q:  What distributors do you use?

A:  We use Ingram Book Company Distribution Network.

Ingram  deals with over 36,000 Wholesalers / Distributors and bookstores, as well as online sellers, schools, and Libraries worldwide.

Q:  Do people have to buy my book on the Internet, or in the bookstores?

  • A:  No. Customers can also purchase DragonEye Publishing books directly from our company at a competitive rate.  Customers may also order directly from their local bookstore as well. Customers may purchase our books on our website, DragonEye Publishing, or simply mail orders to:

DragonEye Publishing

753A Linden Place.

Elmira, NY. 14901

Q:  I already have printed copies of my book. Will DragonEye Publishing sell them for me?

A:  No. DragonEye Publishing maintains our own inventory of our books that we publish for sales to Bookstores and to customers if they buy from our website.

If you bought your own ISBN for your book, that makes you a publisher of your book. And we will not handle your book.

Q:  When will information about my book become available to booksellers and to Wholesalers / Distributors?

A:  This process can take from 2 days and up to 30 days for USA Booksellers. Up to 60 days for Booksellers around the world.

Q:  Can libraries order my book?

A:  Of course. Libraries can order your book directly from Ingram Book Company, or from Baker and Taylor.
